About Our Stainless Steel Plate
NSSC supplies stainless steel plate to industrial, commercial, and
domestic clients across South Africa. We cut every plate to your exact
specifications from our Kempton Park facility, with national delivery
and processing services available in-house.
Stainless Steel Grades We Stock
We hold full inventory of the most commonly specified grades for
South African industry:
- Grade 304 stainless steel plate - the most widely used grade.
Excellent corrosion resistance, weldability, and formability. Ideal
for food processing, architectural cladding, kitchens, and general
fabrication.
- Grade 316 stainless steel plate - superior corrosion resistance,
particularly against chlorides and saline environments. Specified
for marine, chemical, pharmaceutical, and coastal applications.
- Grade 3CR12 stainless steel plate - a cost-effective utility grade
developed for South African mining and structural applications. Strong
mechanical properties at lower cost than 304.
- Grade Duplex and Super Duplex stainless steel plate - high-strength,
high-corrosion-resistance grades for demanding chemical, oil and gas,
and pressure vessel applications.
Thickness Range
NSSC stocks stainless steel plate from 1mm through to 30mm thick in
standard sheet sizes, with custom thicknesses available on request
for project-specific requirements. Common thicknesses include 1.5mm,
2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm.
Cut to Size - In-House Processing
Every stainless steel plate order can be cut to your exact dimensions
before dispatch. Our processing capabilities include:
- Laser cutting for precision profiles up to 30mm thick
- Plasma cutting for cost-effective straight and curved cuts on
medium to thick plate
- Waterjet cutting for thick plate up to 100mm with zero heat
distortion
- Guillotine shearing for fast, accurate straight-line cuts
This means you receive plate ready for installation, fabrication, or
welding - eliminating the cost and delay of sending material out for
secondary processing.
Common Applications
NSSC's stainless steel plate is used across industries including:
- Mining and heavy industry - wear-resistant linings, hoppers, chutes
- Food processing and pharmaceutical — hygienic surfaces, tank shells
- Chemical and petrochemical — pressure vessels, process equipment
- Construction and architecture — structural cladding, façades
- Water and sanitation — tanks, treatment plant components
- Automotive and transport — chassis components, exhaust systems
- Engineering and fabrication — base plates, brackets, structural
How to Order
For standard cut-to-size orders, send us your specifications by email
or use the quote form on this page. Include the grade, thickness,
quantity, and required dimensions. For custom processing - laser
cutting from a DXF file, rolling, bending, or welding - send your
drawings and our team will quote both material and processing in a
single price.

Frequently Asked Questions
What grades of stainless steel plate does NSSC stock?
NSSC stocks 304, 316, 3CR12, Duplex, and Super Duplex stainless steel plate. Grade 304 is the most common general-purpose grade. Grade 316 is preferred for marine and chlorinated environments. 3CR12 is a cost-effective utility grade for structural and mining applications.
What thickness of stainless steel plate is available?
NSSC stocks stainless steel plate from 1mm through 30mm thick. Standard thicknesses include 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm. Custom thicknesses are available on request for specific project requirements.
Can NSSC cut stainless steel plate to size?
Yes. NSSC cuts every plate order to your exact specifications before dispatch. Available cutting methods include laser, plasma, waterjet, and guillotine shearing. This means you receive plate ready for installation, welding, or fabrication without secondary processing costs.
What is the price of stainless steel plate in South Africa?
Stainless steel plate pricing varies by grade, thickness, sheet size, and processing requirements. For accurate pricing on your specifications, send us your requirements via the quote form. Most quotes are returned within one business day with both material and processing costs included.
Does NSSC deliver stainless steel plate nationally?
Yes. NSSC ships stainless steel plate from our Kempton Park facility to clients across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, and East London. Lead time depends on order size and processing requirements.
What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel plate?
Grade 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Grade 316 adds 2-3% molybdenum, which gives it superior resistance to chlorides and saline environments. Choose 304 for general use; choose 316 for marine, coastal, chemical, or food processing applications where corrosion resistance is critical.
